he Pacific Coast of California is one of the most beautiful landscapes in America, in my opinion. It and the Sierra Nevada, are among the reasons I left Texas and moved to California years ago. I don't mean Texas isn't beautiful. Parts of it really are. But there are so many pretty places out here. I landed in San Francisco in 1963 with a pretty girl and a guitar, expecting, because I was somewhat of a master photographer back then, to find a good job quickly. What I found was that San Francisco was full of photographers who would work for nothing just to live in San Francisco. So I ended up selling Volkswagens and singing in The Drinking Gourd, a little folk place on Union Street that didn't pay but was lots of fun.
