here are many old gold mining trails along the branches of the American River. This one is on the North Fork of the Middle Fork. Actually, you can't see the trail. I was standing on it. This is my favorite fork. I was going to do a painting of this scene, but the more I looked at the photograph, the more it seemed that this was one of the ones where the camera does it very well. On the other hand, I fiddled with the image a little. If you are a purist, please quit looking at it.
